The Event Experience Guide to Seattle Neighborhoods: The Fun of SODO to Queen Anne

Have you ever been to Seattle? If not, we recommend adding it to the top of your list of places to visit next year. Sure, we may be biased, but we think we have a great reason to be. Not only is Seattle one of the most iconic cities in the country, but it’s gorgeous. Think about it—Mt. Rainier off in the distance, the glistening waters of Puget Sound, the bustle and excited frenzy of Pike Place Market, the Space Needle—there’s so much to do and so much to see!

But there is one thing about Seattle that newcomers and visitors often find a bit confusing. It’s the neighborhoods. Seattle is comprised of 78 different neighborhoods, all with their own unique flavor and character. In this article, we’ll take you through the most famous and unique of the bunch. Why? Because when you visit, you’ll be sure to want to check out each of these interesting places… and you can sound like a local if you know at least a few.

A Glimpse into 7 iconic Seattle Neighborhoods

While there are indeed 78 unique neighborhoods, there happen to be seven that stand out a bit from the rest. These are the neighborhoods that visitors love to explore during their visits to Seattle, whether here for a company event, a family vacation, or a solo or couple’s getaway.

So, let’s get to it so we can share some of our favorite things about these fun and interesting places to visit.

Downtown Seattle: Where It All Begins

Downtown Seattle is the heart of the city and a must-see for any visitor. Famous for Pike Place Market—yes, the place where they throw the fish—the area is also home to the Seattle Art Museum and the waterfront. The energy of the downtown area is contagious, with endless options for dining, shopping, and sightseeing. Oh, and did we mention the food? The food in downtown Seattle is so good you’ll want to shout it from the nearby mountaintops of the Cascade Range. It’s really that good.

SODO: Sports, Breweries, and Industrial Charm

SODO, short for South of Downtown, has evolved from an industrial area to one of the city’s most exciting places for sports and entertainment. Home to T-Mobile Park and Lumen Field, this neighborhood buzzes with game-day energy. SODO is also known for its growing brewery scene, making it a great spot for pre-game beers or an afternoon of tasting some of Seattle’s finest craft brews. So, when in town, be sure to visit Ghostfish Brewing Company (a great gluten-free choice) or Fast Fashion Brewery.

Fremont: The Quirky and Creative Hub

Fremont has gladly taken on the reputation as the “Center of the Universe.” With funky sculptures, including the famous Fremont Troll under the bridge—one of the coolest selfie spots in Seattle—and a thriving arts scene, this neighborhood is full of surprises. You’ll find vintage shops, quirky cafes, and the popular Sunday market that draws locals and visitors alike.

It’s also home to a great event venue, Fremont Foundry.

Lake Union: Waterfront and Outdoor Adventures

Lake Union is a haven for water lovers, with sailboats, kayakers, and seaplanes dotting the landscape. Parks, including Gas Works Park, are an excellent spot for a picnic with scenic views of the city skyline surrounding the lake. History buffs will enjoy a stop at the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI), while the thrill seekers can head to the water with kayaks or paddleboards in hand.

Queen Anne: Scenic Views and Historic Charm

Famous for the breathtaking views from Kerry Park, Queen Anne offers a quieter, more residential feel while providing plenty to see. The Space Needle and Seattle Center are close by, making it easy to combine sightseeing with a stroll through this charming neighborhood. Its tree-lined streets are home to historic houses, boutique shops, and cozy cafes. So, if you come across one of those shops or cafes, be sure to pop in for a visit.

Beacon Hill: Cultural Flavor with Local Charm

Beacon Hill is a bit on the quieter side. It’s known for its diversity, which is reflected in the restaurants serving up global flavors. Jefferson Park is a highlight, offering beautiful city views, open spaces for picnicking, and a golf course.

Capitol Hill: Music, Nightlife, and Everything in Between

Capitol Hill is Seattle’s most eclectic neighborhood, known for its lively nightlife, music venues, and thriving LGBTQ+ scene. You’ll find it here whether you’re looking for craft cocktails, indie music, or a cozy bookstore. Capitol Hill is also home to Volunteer Park, a peaceful green space with the Seattle Asian Art Museum and a conservatory.
